THE OBJECTIVE
Grown from what had originally been a Poster Design Class project, my approach to expanding a visual concept for event materials for The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was that the festival had been around for 51 years, and I wanted to create a project that visually presented the impact and space that music takes up in the history and identity of the city.
AESTHETIC AND SOLUTION
I designed it to look like a cut-paper poster, the bright colors of the buildings reflect the energy of the streets, and each of the five instruments have their own color palette and shapes related to the sound they produce as they fill the sky with music. It overflows with dancing illustrations and evokes joy in a way that only New Orleans can do.

POSTER & TYPEFACE
The original poster design was inspired in part by Steff Geissbuhler's "New York Is..." poster series and the famous Saul Bass movie title sequences. I chose the colors to reflect the illuminated building facades from neon lights and modeled the building structures off of the French Quarter architecture.
