THE OBJECTIVE

Chocolate and sweet packaging has always been a treat. With the assignment to re-design and come up with an inventive solution for candy packaging. The Divine Chocolate company is not affiliated with this project. I wanted to design packaging that was not only nice to look at on the shelf, but that also had an element of interaction. Good packaging is like good art. You want to save and keep on your shelf, and it's more fun if they're collectable.

THE SOLUTION

The Divine Theater special collection was created to celebrate the wonderful surprise the chocolate and theater can bring with a little imagination. Each of the three chocolate bars are specially designed and individually illustrated to reflect both the contents of the chocolate as well as the amount of cocoa in it, relative from white chocolate with strawberries, to super dark chocolate with raspberries.

TAKE HOME A SHOW

The packaging is sturdy enough to be kept and displayed long after the chocolate is gone. When the bar of chocolate is removed, the illustrated scene is fully visible. The buyer could even take the package apart and the scene will not be compromised since the area beyond the die-cut is the same curtain color and pattern as the exterior.

CRAFTING THE STORIES

I had to write the dialogue for the scenes I was going to create before I could start the illustrations. I developed the characters and how they would fit the flavor and add-ins from the chocolate . I took the original Shakespeare plays that I was inspired by and made them all relate back to chocolate.
